I’m Michele, also known as BigBrus, and this blog begins with some apologies. I liked the idea of starting this blog (the second of my career) with two quotes from Sabaku, an italian YouTuber I came to late, but whose method, study and depth of analysis in the field of video games I deeply appreciate. As far as possible, time permitting, considering that writing and analysis are not my main job (whereas designing cloud infrastructure is) and my own inevitable personal limitations, I will try to replicate that rigour and depth of analysis. This is the first apology, for when I will inevitably fail to do so.
The second is of a different kind. While my thoughts will be public, and as I heard an important artist say “to express yourself is to expose yourself”, the thoughts and reflections I will put in this blog are first and foremost something I do for myself: the fruit of years of reasoning, study and observation in my field, which I would not want to die with me, or be lost in time and 20 years from now still be unexpressed, dated, ultimately useless. For this reason, the style too will be something that appeals to me, not to the algorithm, not to the average reader: it may turn out dense, hard to get through, heavy. And this is the second apology, for when you find yourselves wading through one of my texts.
Beyond in-depth analysis I would also like to include technical reviews, architecture write-ups, personal study, news and commentary, support for beginners, projects. I too will be a spectator of how it will evolve.
My first blog, created in another era by another Michele when the internet was young, and now lost in the depths, was far more naive, wanted to be far more technical, but had several very specific purposes: to improve my English, to showcase my technical ability, to study the problems I encountered more deeply and to bring a solution that was truly, as far as possible in my naivety, a solution. However I remember that reflections on the direction in which IT, systems administration, was heading or should have been heading were already there, even if sometimes in the form of the angry ranting of a 20-year-old trying to figure out where he stood in the world and what he was really doing.
I won’t recount my entire working biography (if you’re interested, I’ve uploaded my CV and you can visit my LinkedIn profile). Suffice it to say that a few years ago, after specialising professionally in Cloud, I found myself in a complex situation where I had to explain, repeatedly, to people often carrying prejudice, no knowledge and a certain distrust, what the cloud is. For this I had to study, prepare, go and look at documents, histories. From there, as always happens when you study, I realised that the idea I had of cloud was confused, superficial, or in the best case a good story but a false one, and that the reality was far more nuanced, layered and interesting.
This is my second attempt at a blog, then. I’m trying again, this time bringing a bit of experience, less anger and a bit of knowledge, without any pretence of being an intellectual. Thank you for your patience, and above all thank you to you, Michele, for whatever you will manage to write.

The Beginning of...
